Jake Canter Secures Bronze in Men’s Olympic Slopestyle

In a tense finale at the Winter Olympics this Wednesday, American snowboarder Jake Canter claimed the bronze medal in the men’s slopestyle event. This marks a career milestone for Canter, as it is his first Olympic medal in his debut appearance at the Games.

A High-Stakes Wait for the Podium

After delivering a final run that earned a score of 79.36, Canter was forced to wait through the remaining performances to see if his standing would hold. The podium spot remained uncertain until the very last moments of the competition:

  • Mark McMorris (Canada): Suffered a heavy crash on his final jump.
  • Marcus Kleveland (Norway): Delivered a strong performance but fell just short of Canter with a 78.86.
  • Dane Menzies (New Zealand): The final rider of the day, Menzies crashed during his attempt, solidifying Canter’s third-place finish.

Competition Results and Background

The gold medal was awarded to China’s Su Yiming, while Taiga Hasegawa took the silver. For Team USA, this podium finish follows a legacy established by Red Gerard, who won gold in 2018. Gerard also competed in Wednesday’s final, finishing in sixth place.

Canter’s path to the Winter Olympics was paved by a standout performance during the 2025-26 World Cup season in Aspen, Colorado, where he secured a victory over both Su and Menzies.
